Please watch both of these videos. While watching them please write down at least four things that you learned, or did not know before watching them.

Write down one discussion question for each video. Write open ended questions. Reference a fact from the video.

Please use your headphones, and please wait quietly while the video loads.

When you are finished please write your thoughts about the videos and the book down on your paper.

Reading Test Friday 11-18-2011

We have a reading test tomorrow. It will be a review of writing a proper summary. Students will be given a short story to read and then write a one page summary of what they read.

The summary must include;

main characters, problem of story, setting(s), solution to the problem, moral or lesson of story

The test will also include a portion about writing open ended questions. Your child should have brought home their notes on this and one of their practice summaries to use a study tool.

Parents,

Please notice that I am including the new syllabi for the second quarter. These show the assignments that I am going to take a grade on for this marking period. We were pretty close to completing all of the assignments last quarter. It helps to keep all of us on track and organized. Thanksgiving Feast!

Parents and Students,

Locust School is doing a food drive. We are collecting all the fixin’s for a Thanksgiving feast. If you are able to donate a non-perishable food item we would appreciate it. All the food collected will be donated to Stanly County Christian Ministries. That means it stays local and our Locust families will also benefit. I think it would be a great service learning opportunity for our sixth graders to help some other family have a good meal. We have been discussing poverty and famine in social studies so this would be a great tie in. Thanks for any and all help that you can give. We will be discussing this in class as well

Field Trip Reminder!

Wednesday, October 12th @ 8am the fifth and sixth graders will be leaving for the Renaissance Festival.Please remember the following for tomorrow;

Bring a bagged lunch and drink or money for food from the many vendors.
We will meet chaperones at the gate. After tickets have been passed out groups will be dismissed to enter the festival.
Students will stay with chaperones until 1:15 when we will all meet at the buses.
Parents may sign out THEIR child at 1:15 from their homeroom teacher.

***Reminders: Thursday we are scheduled to have a test on Social Studies chapter 3 lessons 1-3, I am going to move it to Friday so that we can have a study guide, and review. Friday we also have a Reading test on Summer Running.

Computer Links for the week of 9-19-11

Please go to the link for your novel. You will do the questions for the chapters you have read and then save the rest of the questions for next week when you are back on the computers. Each novel will have a document link here and you will read the questions on the computer and answer them in your binder. Please do not print off the questions. It is a waste of paper.

Most of the students have really come through and turned in their map projects and their reading projects! If you have not already done so please get them turned in by Monday, September 26th. Everything that is turned in at this point is minus 5 points. If it is turned in after Monday it will be minus 10 points.

It is only fair to the students that have worked hard and turned them in on time that they earn the highest grade on the projects.

Also please remember to turn in your permission slips for Linville Caverns and Falls. A permission slip for the Renaissance Festival will also be coming home tomorrow (9-22) for you to sign and turn back in. If money is an issue for either trip PLEASE send a private note to your child’s homeroom teacher and we will help in anyway that we can!

Reading Projects!

Last week the reading project form was due. I have collected and read through all of the forms that have been submitted. If you have not filled out your form yet please make sure that you fill it out and that a parent signs it. There will be a notation in the infraction book if it is not returned. It is 8 days late as of today. Thanks for your help with this!!
